Be Heard! Get Involved! Have a Voice!
Our vision is to develop a long-term recreation master plan that includes:
* Providing the highest quality recreational, cultural and sports opportunities. In addition to fitness and leisure activities, we aspire to create hubs of activity that serve as community centres.
* Complementing existing programs and infrastructure including providing for the eventual addition of at least two large regional recreation facilities in the southeast.
Over the past year, SECRS and the City have collaboratively completed the review and synthesis of the results from the Recreation Gap Analysis, the 10 year Sport Facility Development and Enhancement Strategy, the Art Spaces Strategy and the Calgary Children's Initiative, to create an outline of the needs of the SE communities.
This was the first stage of a five stage process to bring regional recreational facilities to the residents of our area.
SECRS has been formed to play the role of the Community Advisory Group who will work in collaboration with The City of Calgary to develop the new regional recreation centre.
Our purpose is to:
· Work collaboratively with The City of Calgary through the regional recreation centre development process.
· The group will act in an advisory capacity through the process of development, design, construction and operations.
· Assist The City in ensuring the results of the Gap Analysis and needs and preference research are incorporated into the recreation centre process.
· The group will work to engage the residents and stakeholders in the region.
· The group will be inclusive of organizations representing recreation, sport and cultural interest, including but not limited to Community Associations, the Calgary Sport Council and CADA (Calgary Arts Development Authority).
To be effective, SECRS, as the Community Advisory Committee for the South East Calgary regional recreation centre project,
needs to represent all communities and organizations representing recreation, sport and cultural interests located in the
project catchment area.
SECRS invites you to become involved with the Community Advisory Committee.
